Interviews: Dan Vapid
Dan Vapid and the Cheats Dan Vapid has been in all of your favorite pop-punk bands. He helped pioneer the snotty-but-sweet sound that made Screeching Weasels legendary, then helped reinvent that sound all over again with the Riverdales. The rest of his resume reads like your record collection – Sludgeworth, The Methadones, The Mopes, Noise By Numbers and his latest project, Dan Vapid and the Cheats. What started as a means for Vapid to play all the songs he'd written over the years quickly turned into a full-time band in its own right, spawning an album that brought together elements of all his previous bands while still sounding decidedly different. With a second record on the way this summer, staff interviewer Adam Eisenberg called Vapid up to talk about the new album, get the details on the upcoming Mopes reunion at Insubordination Fest and learn why sometimes, you've just got to start another band.

Darkest Hour sign to Sumerian Records
Darkest Hour have signed to Sumerian Records. The long-running band made the announcement with a video signing announcement which noted:

When you start a band you dream that one day you can do what you love with great friends and family around you. Now it all seems to have come full circle. With the good people at Outerloop Management, Sumerian Records and the Pantheon Agency we finally feel right at home. Every aspect of the group is being handled by long-time trusted friends and is in reliable hands. This safe haven has given us the shelter we need to put together a life-changing new album.

The band released The Human Romance in 2011 and are planning a 2014 release date for their Sumerian debut. Before that, the label will be reissuing their 2000 debut, The Mark of Judas, which has been out of print for some time.

New Bomb Turks to reissue !!Destroy Oh Boy!! and 1992 demo
New Bomb Turks To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark (and awesome) debut full length, the New Bomb Turks will be reissuing 1993's !!Destroy-Oh-Boy!! on Crypt Records as a deluxe vinyl edition on July 23, 2013.

It will contain the original album, a "super deluxe" gatefold cover and liner notes from John Petkovic (Death of Samantha, Cobra Verde) and a number of musicians and fans. Crypt will also be releasing a new 10-inch featuring the band's 1992 demo. It's Tapeworm Blues and is due out the same day. That will include four songs which were re-recorded for Destroy and two previously unreleased songs: the title track and "Drug Chicks."

Media: Elway: "Prophetstown"
Photo by David Williams Alternative Press is streaming another new track from Fort Collins, CO's Elway. The song is titled "Prophetstown" and features vocals from Captain, We're Sinking's lead Leo Vergnetti. Tim Browne, Elway's frontman, had this to say about the song:

It's like a schizophrenic version of "The Boy Is Mine" by Monica and Brandy. Uhm. No wait… It's my spiteful, gloomy extrapolation of Shakespeare's "My tongue and soul in this be hypocrites." "Prophetstown" is a song about being torn between two things that you love which are in diametrical opposition to one another, being thereafter unable to reconcile the two and in turn resenting both. In my case, it's my friendship, home life, and comfort versus the prospect of playing in a punk band all over the world.

Check the song out here.

Media: Veara: "Growing Up Is Killing Me"
Georgia-based pop punk band, Veara are streaming the title-track of their new album, Growing Up Is Killing Me. The song features guest vocals by Dan 'Soupy' Campbell of The Wonder Years. Listen to the song under Read More.

Check out the stream here.
Tim Timebomb and Friends: "Disorder Version"
Tim Armstrong The latest Tim Timebomb and Friends installment is an instrumental song written by Tim Armstrong and his Rancid bandmates Matt Freeman and Lars Frederiksen. The song is called "Disorder Version" and is actually an acoustic instrumental version of "Disorder & Disarray," originally appearing on Rancid's 1995 iconic album ... And Out Come The Wolves.
